"Tiffany's designs, particularly those during the Aesthetic Movement (roughly 1867-1887), show a strong admiration for Japanese art and design. This interest was widespread in the late 19th century, with a growing fascination with Japanese culture influencing various artistic fields in the West." -

Not sure if it was an American or Australian that made this piece. Both armies were there together during WWII. Not the original clasp. -

The back of the amethyst is a diamond checkerboard, (couldn't capture a photo of that!) One of Hermes' many patrons was "god of merchants and commerce." "Hermes" was the Greek mythology name and "Mercury" was the Roman name! -

Style/Date: 1873 Materials: 14K, onyx cameo, natural pearls Description: Finely carved stone (onyx) cameo portrait pin/pendant in 14K and probably natural pearls. The bail is on a hinge and can easily be removed to wear as a pin. Measures 4 1/8"high x 2"wide. On the reverse is engraved "Rachel Lockwood . - Aged 83" "Presented to her daughter Mary L. Pierson. Nov. 13. 1873." Possibly from a banking family in Troy, NY. or Greenwich - Stamford, CT. Pearl necklace not included. -
Style/Date: Victorian Materials: 14K yellow gold, variscite Description: 14K yellow gold brooch with twisted wire floral design and large variscite cabochon. Variscite is found in southwestern USA, and is very similar chemically to turquoise (it has no copper!) The pin exhibits "bloomed gold." This was a process in which it was dipped in acid and the alloy would disintegrate and leave behind a matt finish hi carat gold, which was desired at that time. Also called "Romanization." -
